Senongo Akpem: Lost Nigeria Photo Essays

Designer Senongo Akpem put together a series of incredible photo essays that depict life in Africa and the U.S. in the 1960s and 70s, entitled Lost Nigeria. Each image has been converted from slide film and digitized, then organized thematically into seven essays. While they all fall into the category of family photos to some extent, they also provide a fascinating snapshot of the everyday interactions between Africans and Westerners at the time. Below is a selection of images from each of the galleries, but be sure to visit the site for context and commentary.
